Celebrating Utah Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In 2012, Governor Gary Herbert declared August . Utah is home to a large and growing Pacific Island community, with more than 50,000 Pacific Islanders residing in the state. To begin the 2022 festivities, an event was hosted July 30 by (PIK2AR) at Lodestone Park in Kearns. Huntsman Cancer Institute鈥檚 community outreach and engagement team attended with the Colorectal Education Cancer Exhibit, also known as CECE, the giant inflatable colon.

Several community health organizations, local vendors, and small businesses were also present. Activities included cultural heritage education, dance performances, and more. One attendee said, "The festival grows every year and has a lot of fun things to do for families." Another noted, "I am glad we were able to hold our tenth annual Pacific Island Heritage month kickoff festival in Kearns. The community was excited to have this type of event in this area."
