What is Glomerulonephritis?

Glomerulonephritis is a disease that happens when the small filters inside your kidney become inflamed. The small filters inside your kidney are called glomeruli. Your glomeruli play an important role by removing waste, extra fluid, and electrolytes from your kidneys and then sending that waste to your urine.

Most people don't develop glomerulonephritis unless they have another disease like diabetes, lupus, or vasculitis

If you don't get treatment for glomerulonephritis, you can develop end-stage kidney disease (kidney failure). The only treatment for kidney failure is dialysis. It's very important that glomerulonephritis is diagnosed early so your doctor can work with you to treat and manage this disease.
